ARCELOR MITTAL : Replacement of two strip mill speed drives in Fos sur Mer

BOSSARD replaced two strip mill speed drives for the steel company Arcelor Mittal, at the factory in Fos sur Mer.

CONTEXT

FOS SUR MER – Arcelor Mittal Méditerranée and Fos-sur-Mer factory in Bouches-du-Rhône, are able to produce millions of tons of steel per year. They invested on the refurbishing of their equipment and BOSSARD took up the challenge of the world’s leading steel company.

The challenge : To take out the old speed drives and carry out the implementation of two new ones of 10 MW, connection and tests, all in 6 days.

MISSION

Project objective : The original installation, done by GE in the 70s, was to be refurbished during factory shutdown.

Fos-sur-mer installation comprises of 2 speed drives for 10 MW continuous current motor (Voltage : 700 V – Current 15000 A). Each speed drive is composed of 4 cabinets (L 8400 x H 2000 x D 1800 mm). The new cabinets and speed drives were built by BOSSARD and designed by GE.

In 6 days, BOSSARD took out the old speed drives, did the fitting, connecting and tests of 2 10 MW speed drives.

BOSSARD added value :

Manufacturing the new Arcelor Mittal equipment in our workshop in Cholet allowed us to make new speed drive busbars at site exact size. Cabinets were also made to measure in adequation with the site.
